Stroke Recovery

Strikes more than 700,000 people annually and its effects can diminish the quality of life for many of its victims.  Common effects of strokes include:

  • Paralysis or problems controlling movement, such as walking, balance and/or swallowing

  • Sensory disturbances  (such as  the ability to feel, touch, pain, temperature, or position)

  • Difficulty using or understanding language

  • Thinking and memory problems

  • Emotional disturbances

If your loved one has suffered a stroke, it is critical to get them into a rehabilitation program early on.

Linden Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation’s Stroke Recovery Program helps patients recover from stroke and regain their quality of life.  Linden Center utilizes the latest research and technology methods to assist patients recovering from the physical, visual, cognitive and psychological impairments caused by a stroke.

Stroke patients and their families benefit from the support, advice and close supervision of a skilled team of physicians, nurses, dieticians and rehabilitation professionals. Linden Center’s Stroke Recovery Program is a comprehensive program that includes:

  •  Nursing: Comprehensive care from specially trained RNs.

  • Speech Therapy: Restore critical communication skills such as the ability to understand others, use judgment, reasoning and problem solving. Therapy also includes treatment of swallowing, drinking and eating difficulties.

  • Physical Therapy: Increase strength, improve endurance and restore mobility.

  • Occupational Therapy: Enable patients to achieve maximum independence.

  • Therapeutic Recreation: Provide further rehabilitation through participation in physical and cognitive activities.

  • Nutrition: Strategies for healthy eating and cooking facilitated by Linden Center’s registered dietician.

  • Social Worker/Discharge Planning: Prepare the individual, family and/or caregiver for transition to home – including connections to community support groups and organizations that can assist with dealing  with the effects of stroke after discharge.

Since each person’s recovery after stroke is unique, our Stroke Recovery Program helps patients re-learn skills, develop new ways to perform tasks, and prepare them to return to the recreational activities they enjoyed previously.
