Memory Plaza

The Memory Plaza at Linden Center is a 40 bed specialized, secure dementia unit. The unit is directed by Dr. Yonette Davis, the head of Geriatrics at Brooklyn Hospital. Memory Plaza encompasses the most up-to-date memory care modalities.

The staff at Linden Center receives specialty training in Dementia/Alzheimer’s behaviors and care. Our Memory Plaza unit is staffed with a high nurse staff to patient ratio and has a specialized activity program provided 7-days-a-week from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Reminiscence Program

Memory Plaza is designed to meet the needs of the Alzheimer’s/Dementia resident. A locked, secure unit that simulates a NYC neighborhood with park benches, plants, fish and the incorporation of “life stations” allow the resident to be independent in their environment, decreasing the anxiety that is associated with the unfamiliar. By incorporating reminiscence therapy into the living environment, Alzheimer’s/Dementia residents are focused and are able to be engaged in daily routines.

Sensory Room

Sensory rooms are therapeutic, quiet areas that patients can receive therapeutic touch, aroma therapy and relaxation techniques.

The sensory room at Linden Center includes sneozelin sensory equipment, a large screen TV with DVD player to project scenic videos and sounds such as being at the ocean and aroma and touch therapy supplies, in a comfortable area with couches and chairs.

Sensory rooms not only provide necessary stimulation to these residents who are sensory deprived, but also provide a quiet place to decrease a behavioral episode, common in early stage Alzheimer’s residents, triggered by anxiety or over stimulation.
